Coordinating Council

 

UTECC Membership:

The University Teacher Education Coordinating Council is the policy-making body for the University Teacher Education Program. The UTECC consists of faculty coordinators representing each undergraduate and graduate licensure area. UTECC has four subcommittees: Admissions Subcommittee, Assessment Subcommittee, Field Advisory Subcommittee, and the Teacher Education Leadership Team. An External Advisory Committee, representative of the major stakeholders of the ISU program, will act in concert with the UTECC to raise issues and address strategies for resolution. The UTECC will meet approximately once each month during the academic year. More information on UTECC, including membership, can be found on the UTECC webpage on the University Committees website.

UTECC Policies:

The University Teacher Education Coordinating Council creates policies for teacher education students across campus. These policies are a part of the UTEP website. Any questions/concerns relating to these policies can be sent to utep@iastate.edu.

UTECC Subcommittees:

The University Teacher Education Coordinating Council has four subcommittees and one committee.

Admissions Subcommittee:

The purpose of the UTECC Admissions Subcommittee is to review applications for admission and recommend to the University Professional Education Coordinating Council students who are eligible for admission. The subcommittee consists of five UTEP faculty coordinators, UTEP Associate Director and UTEP Licensure Analyst.

Assessment Subcommittee:

The purpose of the UTECC Assessment Subcommittee is to gather and interpret assessment data that evaluates the teacher education program at Iowa State University. In addition, the subcommittee will assist the different licensure areas to use the existing data or help design instruments to gather additional data for evaluation purposes. The subcommittee consists of one UTECC faculty coordinator, two teacher education faculty members, the Research Institute for Studies in Education (RISE) Coordinator, and a UTEP Associate Director.

Field Advisory Subcommittee:

The purpose of the UTECC Field Advisory Subcommittee is to review requests from students seeking special placements for field experiences and to discuss and resolve problems related to field experiences in general. The subcommittee consists of two CI faculty members, one supervisor, one faculty coordinator from secondary teacher education, and two staff members from the UTEP office.

Teacher Education Leadership Team:

The purpose of the UTECC Teacher Education Leadership Team Subcommittee is to review student appeals. Minutes are not posted online due to confidentiality. The policies that govern TELT are online. Email utep@iastate.edu if you have any questions/concerns.

External Advisory Committee:

The purpose of the UTECC External Advisory Committee is to provide vision and direction for the University Teacher Education Program at Iowa State University. Stakeholders will serve as a sounding board on curriculum and policy related discussions, as well as share present and future concerns for pre-service teachers. The committee consists of: Early Childhood Education Teachers, Elementary Education Teachers, Science Teachers, Math Teachers, Agricultural Education Teachers, English Teachers, Family and Consumer Sciences Teachers, Music Teachers, Physical and Health Teachers, World Languages Teachers, Early Childhood Education Administrators, Elementary Education Administrators, Secondary Education Administrators, Superintendents (Central Office Administrators), School Board Representatives, AEA Representatives, Human Resources Representatives, Community College Representatives, Board of Educational Examiners Representatives, Business and Industry Representatives, and Legislator/Policy-Maker Representatives.
