Initiatives Involving PK-12 Schools
The University Teacher Education Program (UTEP) Field Experiences Office serves as the central point of contact for PK-12 schools. Funneling all contacts through this office will lead to better coordination and internal/external communication. All UTEP Faculty and Staff are expected to check with the Field Experiences Office (via in person, phone call, email, or 'Initiatives Involving PK-12 Schools' form) before contacting schools for any new initiatives (such as research or practicum placements).
Collaborative Teaching Experience
Designated members of the UTEP Faculty (listed above) are required to engage in the following:
Chapter 79: Standards for Practitioner and Administrator Preparation Programs in the Iowa Administrative Code requires that universities with curricula leading to teacher licensure or teaching endorsements meet the following standard:
79.12(6) Faculty members preparing practitioner candidates maintain an ongoing, meaningful involvement in activities in preschools, elementary, middle, or secondary schools. A minimum of 60 hours of such activities shall include team teaching during the period between approval visits. A maximum of 30 hours of the 60-hour requirement may be completed by supervising preservice candidates in PK-12 classroom settings.
The University Teacher Education Program Committee has defined faculty members in professional education as "faculty who on a continuing basis teach methods/pedagogy courses as identified by each licensure area."
