University Teacher Education Program |
WelcomeWelcome to the University Teacher Education Program (UTEP). A program, such as ours, is much more than one office or one academic department. We are proud to be a part of the College of Human Sciences but UTEP also celebrates its role as a university-wide program that reaches most colleges and departments at Iowa State University. It is a program with a long and rich history dating back to 1901 with the establishment of the Home Economics Education (now Family and Consumer Sciences). Our graduates teach throughout Iowa, in every state in the nation, and in countries throughout the world. Today there are 16 undergraduate licensing areas, 28 added endorsement programs, and 11 graduate licensing areas offered at Iowa State University. Pursuing a career dedicated to optimizing student learning and achievement is a noble cause. Polls have ranked "educator" as one of the most respected careers in our country. While the primary role of teachers is to facilitate learning, teachers are respected role models and their overall influence on students is huge. Many veteran teachers report that former students seek them out to tell them of the difference they have made in the lives of their students. Christa McAuliffe, America's selected Teacher in Space, said " I touch the future. I teach." This website describes the University Teacher Education Program at Iowa State University. It provides a wealth of information as well as essential forms that may be downloaded. We invite you to explore the many opportunities available through our program and welcome your input, questions, or requests for further information. David Whaley, Ph.D. |
